Of Foreign Talents: Singapore Art Show 2007

I love this work!
a concrete statue of a construction worker that faces the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles
It has a plaque that faces the original plaque under Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles that says
"on this obscure site
and many others
we landed on Singapore soil
since time immemorial
with our labour and toil
changed your genius and perception
from a mere idea
to concrete reality"

for those interested The original plaque under Sir Stamford Raffles says:
"on this historic site
Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles
first landed in Singapore
on 28th January 1819
and with genius and perception
changed the destiny of singapore
from an obscure fishing village
to a great seaport and
modern metropolis"

(personally i never liked the false western view of post colonial Singapore as an "obscure fishing village" . Methinks we were a mighty kingdom )

interestingly, a truck accidentally reversed and knocked over the original art work which fell and broke. it is now missing an arm!!!!!!!!!!!
yes they pasted the article of it on the base too, really funny though i thought it was a pretty good idea for publicity, stunt or otherwise.
